The forest processing industry in Caoxian has a development history of over 600 years. Historical records can be traced back to the production of grass and willow weaving in the Ming Dynasty, and by the end of the Qing Dynasty, it had developed to use materials such as wheat straw and wolfberry willow to weave handicrafts. During the Republic of China period, Zhou Ziqi, the then Governor of Shandong, allocated funds to establish the Caozhou Rehabilitation Bureau and the Grass Hat Braid Training Institute. Due to the long history and good foundation of Caozhou Grass Willow Weaving, its products were exported to various parts of the country and overseas.
After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the forest processing industry developed from grass willow weaving technology to wooden products such as boards and furniture, with a continuous increase in product types. In recent years, in order to meet the demand of domestic and international markets, the categories of outdoor furniture, solid wood furniture, wood carving products and other products have become more diverse. Pulianji Town is an important town for processing wooden handicrafts. There are currently 45000 acres of high-yield forests and Qitiao planting bases in the town.
